About Chris
Christopher Brown was born in Rutland, Vermont in 1961.
After spending time studying at the Lake Placid School of Art, Maryland Art Institute, and New Paltz, he received a B.F.A in 1984 from SUNY Purchase in White Plains N.Y. His concentration in printmaking led him to apprentice at Tyler Graphics where he worked with Robert Motherwell, David Hockney, Frank Stella and Ken Tyler. Christopher has been drawing and observing trees since he was very young. As a self taught furniture builder Christopher has enjoyed combining passions in order to create a timeless piece of artwork. The character of the wood lends itself to the composition of the drawings, and the whimsical pencil strokes express an excitement and appreciation of nature. Although he has a passion for woodworking, printmaking, and pastels, his graphite drawings are what he always returns to; they are clearly his innate gift. Recently creating a body of work relative to the Wood River Valley and surrounding area his drawings are nearly painterly. He draws mostly from a minds eye, and sometimes from photos, absorbing Nature and translating it with passion and thoughtfulness.
Currently representing himself in Hailey Idaho, where his studio is open to the public, Christopher is enjoying being a parent, artist and husband. They are all keeping him busy; however he is savoring every step of the way. Please call for an appointment or just come on by:
